Easy SUP Fishing Tips
Tips that will help you maximize your SUP experience while chasing fish.
Kayak fishing is a thing. It’s been a thing for a long time. It used to be my favorite thing to do on the water, until now. For me, SUP fishing has claimed the veritable throne when it comes to fishing from non-motorized water crafts. This isn’t the case in the industry as of yet. But generally speaking, this new idea of fishing from a stand up paddle board is gaining a lot of momentum! Awareness and education will absolutely help to strengthen the cause. Many of you who have experienced SUP fishing know that the key to success is simply being smart. But smarts aren’t always automatic. Through my own personal trials and tribulations, I’ve compiled a list of easy SUP fishing tips for those looking to get into this epic, new mode of fishing and take the easy path to success!

Top 3 Birds that Fish
I am not a bird expert, nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night. I do love birds, however. Who doesn’t, am I right? I mean, they’re the closest living relative to dinosaurs (I think that’s what science says these days). And, they can fly! And, flying is the second most common superpower of choice, second only to time travel (Googled it). That brings me to another thing that I love: fishing. First I want to thank you so much for checking in on part 2 of this series, I really appreciate it. As a person who is constantly looking for validation, I want you to know that you are a flicker of light in the otherwise cavern where my heart once lived. No, seriously my heart is mostly made of plastic, my original heart tried to kill me, but that’s for another time—that time being step 5 so you will have to stick around for that story.
Fly Fishing: What a Hassle
[To all you fly fishing purists out there: don’t get your knickers in a twist over this headline. The following essay is not an indictment on the sport of fly fishing. Give it a chance. It might just resonate with you. In the very least I’m hoping you’ll get a chuckle or two out of it. I will preface the following story with this: I’ve been a fly fisherman for 25 years. If you’ve been a fly angler for a while, more than likely you’ve experienced a situation akin to the one I am revisiting here.]

Listen, I get it. I have 4 kids, each with their own very distinct personality. And maybe it’s a joke from the good Lord above that they inherited their mother’s strong will (I blame their mother because I am perfect in every way). Okay, maybe they’re not full on stubborn (I do expect my wife to read this one day). Let’s just call it “determined”. You get what I’m throwing out there, right?
Inflatable SUP Boards vs Inflatable SUP+Kayak Hybrids
It’s a fact: water is a source of healing and has been for millennia. Lakes, rivers and oceans have always been places where humans seek sanctuary. Modern times offer us humans a myriad of ways to experience these watery retreats. On any given day prior to this dreaded COVID-19 pandemic, one could look out onto a random body of water near any significant population center and see a handful of stand up paddlers and kayakers. Now, a year into the pandemic, you can look out onto that same body of water and find the number of paddlers is, in many cases, twice what it used to be. And, that number is rising!
